Senna 8 Infinity

Some things do last forever. History lasts forever. Bronze more or less does. And the symbol 8 even means forever. So to me, this was the perfect foundation for upon which to base my next sculpture celebrating my own personal hero, the icon upon who I’ve based much of my career, Ayrton Senna. And to mark what turned out to be his last race win, at the Australian GP in Adelaide, 1993, driving car No.8.

But how could I keep pushing my own limits, do something that’s never been done before, and with unparalleled provenance? Well... by basing this impossibly twisted 4ft tall bronze tyre sculpture on 3D scans of the tyres from Ayrton’s actual race winning MP4/8. AUSTRALIA just about visible still on the FIA scrutineer label, but three decade old rock hard rubber nearing it’s ultimate degradation... now preserved forever.

A progression of my infinity tyre concept first seen with my project with Pirelli last year, and which will be unveiled physically right on the former F1 circuit at Adelaide Motorsport Festival.
Enormous thanks to everyone at McLaren Racing for making this possible, affording me a ridiculous level of trust and access to achieve all this, never mind being afforded a day back on their iconic boulevard with the finished sculpture, to shoot with not just Senna's Adealide 93 winning car, but also his race winning trophy! Truly ridiculous. Never taken for granted.
