“I could paint an elephant 20% 'wrong', and it's still an elephant…”
I love painting animals, after the relative restrictions of painting F1's rigid forms and logos, wildlife is a release. I can really relax and just go for it, concentrating far more on the overall effect rather than accuracy. I mean, I could get an elephant 20% wrong and it's still recognisable as an elephant... Unless it's your elephant, I guess. Literally carving three-dimensional fur and scales with my pallet knife, formed from thick oil paint. I grew up in rural England, right on the Welsh border as it happens on a hill farm, surrounded by countryside and wildlife. Pheasants everywhere... which I still maintain are the stupidest animals I've ever met despite their photogenic looks, but a school trip to Bristol Zoo, aged 10, was the inspiration that hit hardest. So, when 30 years later I'm discussing show concepts with my Bristol-based gallery partner, creating a huge wildlife series and partnering with Bristol Zoo on the project, didn't take me long to imagine. We were between studios at the time in 2014, and the whole 19 artwork ROAR! gallery show was painted in our 8ft square kitchen.... even the 8x4ft life-size elephant portrait. Yes, it's still a portrait and, similarly as with human portraits, it's all about the eyes.

Kimi Forza!
Hand embellished, Limited Edition, Framed Canvas. Kimi Antonelli winning his home race at the Temple of Speed in Monza, was one of my personal highlights in my time working with F1. Just a mind blowing atmosphere, an instantly iconic helmet too, and immediately evident what I needed to be painting as soon as I got home.

Lando Golden Tears
Hand embellished, Limited Edition, Framed Canvas, depicting Lando as he stood emotional on top of his car, as he sealed his first world title Abu Dhabi 2025. Lando – First Win Miami
Hand embellished, Limited Edition, Framed Canvas. An emotional pressure relieving first race win in Miami. Lewis - now in red
Sold Out - Artist’s Edition
Hand embellished, Limited Edition, Framed Canvas. A tongue in cheek 'now in red' portrait, which I nervously unveiled at Silverstone that summer when Lewis had signed for Ferrari but still driving for Mercedes, and in the BRDC Clubhouse where I knew Lewis had a private party early race week. He was seen viewing it with a wry smile, which to me is perfect.

Lewis Barcelona Win
Hand embellished, Limited Edition, Framed Canvas. Celebrating Lewis' long overdue first main race win for the Scuderia, Barcelona 2026. It's worth watching the podium ceremony back to see how emotional Lewis was, not being able to take his eyes off his singing Ferrari team.

Lewis Hamilton 2017 title celebration
Hand embellished, Limited Edition, Framed Canvas. A moment that happened right in front of my eyes in Mexico City, as I guessed exactly where Lewis would stop the car in front of Paddock Club. It was immediately obvious to me what I would be painting the second I got home... I even painted the background first after the night flight, only hen went to bed. The reason why I do 'this'.

Lewis Hamilton Mexico 17 Car

Mexico 2017, where Lewis didn't podium but clinched the title - and the first title celebration that I saw unfurling right in front of me, when I was live painting in Foro Sol at the circuit. Senna 1985 portrait
Hand embellished, Limited Edition, Framed Canvas. The year and the reason that I first ever got into F1 - Senna in 1985. The black and gold Lotus, yellow helmet on top, just looked so awesome to 10yr old me. Little did I appreciate at the time the icon I was witnessing, or where celebrating him in artwork would later lead my life... just ridiculous.

Union Lewis - Abu Dhabi 2014
Hand embellished, Limited Edition, Framed Canvas. The title celebration for Lewis' second world title, the first of 6 for Mercedes, Abu Dhabi 2014.
